I have this weeeeeeee sound coming out of my rover. I know it's from the front of the thing and it's somehow related to acceleration at like 65 mph or so. It gets louder when I go faster and. It has always made that sound, but it was loud as hell coming back from Miami today. It was louder than my tires. I know it's tough to guess, but if someone has a 02 Disco and has the same problem I'd like any further info. |

Need more specifics. Is it coming from the engine compartment or is it coming from the stereo? Try turning off the stereo and see if that makes the sound disappear. |

Does it make this sound when you are stopped in neutral and rev the engine hard? |

Dean, Just at higher speeds as far as i hear. The best way to describe it is like a bad Tach. or something. That happens on boats sometimes but usually the tachometer goes bad or flutters. Mine works just fine. I can step on the gas (when I'm on the highway) and it makes the sound, foot off gas, it stops. Weird. I was kind of hesitant to even post this but curiosity got the best of me. Weeeeeeeeeeeee.>JB |

So it's mechanical sounding and not electronic sounding (alternator whine through stereo speakers)? |

Have you got a/c? My D1 had a similar high pitch sound one morning and it was the #2 cyl lead undone from the clips, and was very close to the a/c compressor. The higher the revs the louder the weeeeeee. Some sort of interference I guess. Rev it in neutral and see if the weeeeee is there. Hope this helps. |

Idler pulley gone or going bad? Bad cat? I've got one bad cat that "rattles" at 1250RPM and 2550RPM. |

t-case? May be normal (t-case does make some noise at speed, some more than others), but if you're still under warranty get it checked out.

I thought the idler pulley only made noise when the engine was idling. That's what mine did. |

OK. I have been hearing this strange weeeeeee noise everytime I go over one of those humps in the road at an intersection and at high speeds. Did not know what it was until one day I looked back at my kids in the jump seat screamin weeeeeeeeee. Sorry, I just had to do it. Chris |
