94 disco just arrived today. the transfercase is in the forward low range position. No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to get it into high range. I've tried rolling and yanking, and I sprayed wd-40 into the linkage. Help!!! Thank-you Dweb! |

First off...Congratulations! We should all be lucky enough to be in low range so much that it gets stuck there. If you really want it out of low range I assume its just the linkage rusted in like it usually is. To fix mine I actually had to take out my center console crap and cut the foam boot off the shifter and remove the whole thing and take it to the vice. Works good now. Good luck. Took about 2 to 3 hours. |

Put it in park, pull the parking brake, and then put the shifter in nuetral. Now try pulling it down to high. If still stuck, step on the brake and put it in "Drive" (keep foot on brake), and then put it back to nuetral. Now try shifting the transfer case to high! My 98 was hard to shift high to low or vice versa (previous owner most likely never took it off road; under is soo clean and no scraps) when I first got it. After regular use of transfer case and habit of shiting the transfer case at least once a week, it seems to shift better. Still once in a while, I have to go thru the routine described to shift the transfer case otherwise, it's easier now! Good luck! |

I had the neutral gear shift interlock fail, locking me in hi. Same access as Ryan, but had to remove the pin. Doa search. There was a good link for diagnosing and fixing a seized linkage. |

Thanks guys for the info. Much to my surprise, the transfercase was in high the whole time (Man do I feel dumb). The linkage was so loose that no matter where the the shift lever was, it was in high range. Next step is to tighten it up and see what happens. Thanks again for your help! |
