I luv my 96 disco and am one with my truck, but BOY DO YA COP FLACK FROM EVERBODY. Mention that ya own a Discovery and all the dudes reckon they arn't real 4Wds, they can't handle this and they can't handle that. Patrol is the one to get, Toyota is the one,up my neck of the woods though there is a population explosion of Discos in my neighbourhood I count at least 10 0r so everyday. ARE WE ALL WRONG??? Is this just an Aussie thing or do you guys Stateside also cop rthis Flack?

When my brother-in-law found out that my truck was called a "disco", it was all over. Nothing but grief. Then he found out it's a "disco-one" or a "disco-two". That sent him (and his friends) over the edge. Let me put this in context: he has Ford 250-superduty, some kind of monster diesel engine that's been chipped. 60-100mph he can leave almost any car on the road.

Over here, I'd say 98% of all disco2s are soccer moms/mall crawlers.

but perfection is boring. No need to envy the toyota drivers. their boring cars give them too much spare time to speak about Rovers.

And that's the problem. They've got soccer-mom rap.

My brother inlaw got a Jeep and so we were talking off-road stuff. He thought that Discoverys were just useless off road... until I showed him some stock ramp scores. :-) He was stunned that the Discovery, as well as the Montero, and Trooper scored so well.

The discovery is good but when you compare it to a modified toyota and a jeep that is were they are good at. I have seen jeeps go threw rock courses with no problems at all all the wheels were locked and raised with 35 super swampers And toyotas that had buggy springs that is were the jeeps and toyotas are good at you can raise them really high compared to the disco but when stock Disco's are just as good even though we have alot more overhang.

The looks and comments of respect you get when those who really know see you on the trails more than makes up for any smack from any idiots standing around in a driveway. When you go to a place like Tellico, here in the states, and the locals give you a "Hell yeah!", it is easy to just laugh when your know-it-all buddy starts to talk. You know what you can do, that's what matters.

I live in the mountains and Discos are very highly held...even by J**p owners. I rarely catch anything but admiration. Funny thing too since 99% of the Discos I see here are of the soccer mom variety. Everybody else drives modified Cherokees and Wranglers.

All my friends own jeeps and I own a 96 disco and If they see a Disco that is raised they go crazy like it is one in a million that they would see it and think that it can go threw anything. They like them alot they can't wait till I have mine all done. With there jeeps though they have the most problems I have ever seen they break a driveline or ruin there transmition everytime they go out, it is amazing they are all selling there jeeps for toyota pickups thinking that those won't break either

Thanks for the info guys, I notice that most of the trail maps here in Australia always show a pic of a Disco doing it , One of my Patrol owner knockers reckons that it 'cause Landrover sponsers them! At least the Wrecking yards I past don't have too many Rolled Discos in them, maybe these Discos plant their feet firmer on the ground than the Jap stuff
