Six weeks ago I did a radiator flush and within 50 miles of doing it I started to get a high pitch squeel from the motor when I am in idle. As soon as I come out of idle it goes away. I am 80% certain the noise is coming for the water pump. Any ideas if it is the water pump and if it is am I doing damage driving it around like this. How hard is it to replace?? Dealer quoted $550.00 to do it if it is the water pump. Thanks |

to replace, about 3 hours of your time (with right tools) and about $150 for the pump itself. if it is the pump making the noise, the bearings are probably going. might make that noise for awhile, but eventually it will let go. |

Go to www.motorcarsltd.com - they specialize in Jaguar and Rover parts. A rebuilt water pump will cost you $80 - if you don't install yourself it shouldn't cost more than $150 to have it done. The only difference with a rebuilt water pump is the outside casing isn't new - and it's warranteed. |

550.00 dollars, ouch!!! You can purchase a pump for 150 - 240 dollars and just replace yourself. It's not to bad, do a search on the archives under "waterpump" for instructions. I would be worried about purchasing a rebuilt waterpump, if the aluminum casting is of poor quality, it may result in porosity. I guess this can also result in a genuine part, it depends what your willing to pay. Larry |

It does not hurt to change those items since you will be changing the waterpump. Disco's all about preventative maintenance! I would hold off the viscous drive unless it's failed. Good luck Larry |
