Don't know if anyone has posted this before, but don't you think it's interesting that they can have a special Defender vehicle - not road worthy of course - but the rest of us cannot. This would be the equivelant of a CKD in many respects:

They didn't say how old the 110 was that it was built on. Maybe it was a "restored" antique.

Busch Gardens probably has a bit more pull with the State government. Maybe they got some sort of waiver due to the customisation?

IIRC, LRM did a story on the build of those trucks right before they went into service at Busch Gardens. I believe they were all built by Land Rover Special vehicles on a Defender 147 chassis (stretched 130 chassis).

As far as pull goes, there's not much too it as long as they never go on a legal road. However, if any of those trucks left the grounds of BG, I'm sure that legally, Busch Gardens would be up the proverbial estuary.

Getting 'em here is easy, its making them legal to drive thats the tough part.

Thanks,

Yep, that's the crux....

You CAN bring over a brand new Land Rover D90, if you're going to use it in a competition, or keep it on the farm unregistered, etc. If ever you don't want it anymore, it then has to go back: you can't legally sell it to anyone here. Since most of us don't want a new Rover just for farm-or-cometition use-only, that doesn't do us any good.....

so you can have one on the "farm". I have also heard from a number of people that you could bring over 1 automobil one time and have it as a normal car, I think there are restrictions on the yearly milage??

Could you register ia new Defender as a commercial or farm vehicle? I know a lot of guys that do that with regular pick-ups to avoid fees and taxes.

just wait, 5 more years and 1984s can be brought in, no EPA, no DOT no nothing.

Hire one of the UK firms to do a refurb and you have a nice truck.

What do you mean we can't have defenders? You have one. :-) Are there any new cars you can point to that fit your description as being a death trap or burning oil? I'm guessing not. If you're talking about older cars, then as Ron mentioned, you get a chance to bring in a 25 year old car, no matter how much a death trap.

And what's wrong with it being up to EPA specs? You want anyone to run any car they want, even if it gets 1MPG and churns through foreign oil like no tomorrow, polluting the whole way?

I know I just see some of the junkers on the road with busted piston rings blowing smoke, cars with no cats, ohter cars just burning oil get the idea? I think those should be banned if a efficent D-90 turbo diesal cant be here. I can think of a number of cars that i could demolish with my D-90 if I hit them. D-90 vs. a Civic or an Echo yeah lets see. If i was worried about fuel consumption I wouldn't have a Defender, for that matter I usually drive one of those cheap economy death traps or ride my bike from place to place.
