To all,
I have a '98 disco with 91,000 miles that runs great, BUT my wife reports that several times over the last 2 or 3 weeks that the engine continues to rev while braking. I searched and searched, but can't find anything specific. I hooked up my code reader, but no faults noted. Just wandering if anyone had any thoughts. Thanks in advance.

You might check your accelerator cable to see if it is sticking or if it has worn through the cable housing anywhere.

I am not even going to suggest that she is hitting the gas while braking.

I didn't even think of that!!! Maybe I will have her test drive it and watch her feet out of the corner of my eye!!!!! Definetly possible..... I kind of doubt it though because she has been driving the truck for over two years and has never noticed this condition before.......

Check out your battery and alternator as well, it makes it do some crazy things when either or start going.

Im new to the Disco world, but I will take a stab. I would check the power brake booster. Im assuming that the booster runs of vacum from the intake manifold. If the diaphragm is leaking, this could increase air flow to the intake and lead to an increase in airflow which would be detected by the MAF and the response would be to increase fuel due to the lean condition produced by the leak. I would check to make sure the booster is holding vacum. Disconnect the vacum hose and apply vacum source using a minivac and look to see if it holds the vacum. Also check the check valve if one is on the booster. How are the brakes during use? Is the power assist decreased? Do you hear a whooshing noise when applying the breaks? These things sometimes are indicative of a bad booster. Good luck

I have a friend with a 97 D1 and this sort of thing happened to him. I dont remember what the solution was. Ask her which of her 1000 pairs of shoes is wearing when she notices. Maybe they are causing her to do what the above posts mentioned.

Sure she is not talking about the "kick up" that happens around 1100 rpm's????

I havea 98 disco w/ 75k and it does the same sort of thing. I've also had a problem with uneven idle and such. The cold weather killed my battery, so I had to replace it, but it still did the same thing. About a month or so back, the O2 sensor went bad. It still ran ok then, so I didn't spend the money to replace it. About last week or so, I was reading through some old threads about this situation and they said it could be cause by that sensor. Just a thought -- also, my code reader came back with P1496 -- which I've heard is a loose fuel cap, I have no clue if this might be a factor or not (new to the wonderful world of discos)

Darryll -- what do you mean the "kick-up?" I haven't heard this term before.
