OK, I have been looking to pick up a Rimmer Supercharger for my 2000 DII. And I am trying to figure out something, is the Rimmer Supercharger kit, something from Rimmer Bros ( http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/ ) or is it from someone else called Rimmer Engineering?

I ask this because while I have been looking around I see there are other Rimmer supercharger kits for many other makes of cars. Also the online catalog of Rimmer Bros doesn't mention anything about a supercharger for any application.

And does anyone know where I can actually order one of these kits from. I see them come up used every once in a while, but I haven't been able to find a vendor that will sell me one (well I haven't seen one listed anyway) brand new.

PS. I did find a link to a www.rimmerenginc.com, but it redirected me, as if the website is no longer valid.

Thanks
-Stuart

I was talking to a shop in the UK only the other day about the Rimmer S'chargers. Apparently the conversion is no longer available due to the number of engine failures as a direct result of fitting this wholly unsuitable conversion.
However, the Garage in question had succesfully fitted a 'Eaton' S'charger to their own 3.9 powered D90.
Email Nigel Heywood at Buryas Bridge Garage in the UK on nigel@buryasbridge.fsnet.co.uk for further info. Nice guy with a lengthy waiting list for his company's custom Land Rover services.

Well its funny you say that, because I stumbled on a few posts about a Rimmer Supercharger kit for Subaru's, and one of the posts mentioned that they quit offering the kit, because every car they put it on detonated. Thanks for the info, I really want to see if I can work with someone in the US first, just to make things easier on myself, but if I can't come up with anything, then I will contact him.

Also, I just came across this group as well http://www.chariotsoffiresuvs.com/pack_perf_discovery.htm
They used to be Cameron concepts (who has a CARB approval number for a LR supercharger kit) I think. So anybody had any dealings with these two groups? I sent an e-mail but haven't heard back.

BTW - I don't live in California, so CARB isn't important to me, but right now I am just looking for an actual manufacturer for a kit.

Rimmer bros UK and Rimmer engineering have no connection other than the name.
The "Rimmer" supercharger kits put on NAS V8 Rovers in the '90's were developed by Rick Rimmer, and I've never seen two alike. Rimmer claimed to be constantly upgrading the design, and used both Eaton and Autorotor superchargers. I personally believe Rimmer just kept pissing off his vendors with his (lack of) people skills and was forced to use new components. I've got about 50K miles on my supercharged engine with no problems, but I watch it closely. I know of one other local Rover with similar mileage, he also has had no issues. Mine was installed by the previous owner who had some experience with the unit and ran one on his other Rover, the local owner had his installed by a shop here in Denver that used to sell the kits. Rimmer claimed most of the problems experienced by SC owners were caused by faulty installation and I believe there is some truth to that, but would add, I don't drive it hard and have an in-cab boost gauge installed to make sure of it. I only run high-octane gas to keep from pinging and use an octane boost if I'm taking a trip and know I'll be pushing the engine. I regularly change my spark plugs and am careful to keep from oiling my K&N too much to avoid sucking it into the SC. Overall I have to say I am very pleased with the unit. I owned a soft top D90 for 6 years and was amazed the first time I drove my new heavier, automatic station wagon D90 with the supercharger and Borla installed. It should have this much power from the factory. Good luck finding a kit out there and be sure to have it looked at closely by a shop familiar with either Eaton or Autorotor SC's before you bolt it onto your engine. I love the performance of mine but would much rather have a built 4.6 installed and would recommend to anyone planning to keep their vehicle to look into that option first. There is more information on the D90 source under the FAQ section.
