Hi dwebbers, I have a Truetrac front diff installed for 4000 km and discovered yesterday something strange (maybe?). I had the DI with everything in neutral on flat area, engine off. I grabbed the front bumper and pushed the truck (hulk thing you see) and then I heard a soft little whining noise from the front diff housing. I managed to get closer to the diff housing while someone else was pushing and the noise clearly comes from the diff. Is it possible or normal that we could here the TT gears like this ? Has anyone heard or could do the test to tell me if everything is right ? Apart from that, from lifting the wheels, it seems that it works nice : if I rotate one wheel, the other goes in the same direction. If sommeone hold one wheel, I can still rotate the other one but there is some torque transmitted on the other. Thanks for feedback. Erik. New Caledonia. |

If the drivetrain is not turning - then it cannot be the TT. Nothing in the diff is moving if the truck isn't. Must be a vibration from soemwhere else - though if you could hear it with the engine off - I've got no clue?? Bill |

Did you install new bearings when you replaced the stock carrier with the TT? If not, then the bearings may be shot if you have high mileage on them and are in a warm place. |

Hi Nadim, Well the bearings on the TT are brand new (in fact I ordered the TT with pressed on new bearings). If I lay down under the truck, grab the front propshaft and turn it by hand (engine off and everything in neutral) I can even here that little whining noise in the front diff. Is it possible or normal that I could here the worm gear inside the TT ? Thank you all Erik. New Caledonia |

Hi Phillip, you are right, with tires on ground, if I turn the drive shaft by hand, i have first a little play, which is the ring and pinion normal backlash, ang then, before the wheels start to move I can turn the driveshaft a little (with a bit more torque), and after that if I still turn the shaft, then wheel will start to move. When I do this, I can hear the little "gear whine". Regards Erik New Caledonia. |

Any TT owner have any clue or can make the test ? Thank you very much in advance for help. I think I might be the only TT owner in my country, so it is difficult to find someone else to compare. Regards. Erik New Caledonia

Phillip I am going to assume that if he can turn the drive shaft by hand and the wheel move, he either has forearms like Popeye or it is on a lift. Sounds abnormal to me. Who did the install? I would check that first. Also be sure it isn't a wheel bearing and sounds like it is from the diff. |
