It seems this morning when I went to warm up my 95 Disco it was a little louder than usual. Looked underneath and smoke was coming out of the resonator. Can anyone tell me where I can get an inexpensive aftermarket exhaust system? I live in Georgia and we have emissions so I will need to be able to pass. I know of one place that has a reasonable bolt on at www.motorcarsltd.com. However, I wanted to see if an alternative existed.

Regards

Well this depends on a few factors. Do you know if the exhaust on your truck is original? If so i would think it is in need of replacing. Was smoke coming out of the muffler or rear resonator? I would assume the rear resonator but you said you looked under the truck so I just want to make sure. If you are looking for a cheap way to go and it is just the resonator cut it off and put a pipe in its place. However, probably the rest of the system is pretty bad too so this would just be temporary. If you want to get the whole deal replaced I would take it to a good muffler place, they will probably do it for less than $150 or so depending on what type of muffler you get. I would recommend a stainless system but they are quite pricy and an aluminized steel one will last you for at least a few years down south where you live. The Walker one they have at the site listed above would work, but might be more trouble than waiting an hour at a shop and driving away done with it. Also, by the time you pay shipping on those items you are probably gonna be looking at a bit more expensive than a shop. Good luck.

Cutt the resonator off and get a 3 chamber flowmaster. Sounds perfect to me, not to loud and not to quiet.

I actually just checked Midas the other day to replace the muffler behind the resonator. $300!! And that doesn't include labor - just the muffler. "Genuine Land Rover". Whatever... They also said I didn't have any other choice. I've got a choice to go there or not though...

I went to a local muffler shop, it cost me $115 bucks just to change the resonator and the end pipe!! I had the truck inspected the next month here in TX and it passed just fine. The resonator is not genuine but it works just fine!! Shop around and find the best place with the price that fits your budget!!!

Can the Disco pass emissions with just the larger resonator? Also do you have the part number for the flowmaster part? What is the diameter measurements on the system? I figure the sooner the better I am getting horrible gas mileage.

Barry the flowmaster part will vary, they make lots of configurations. I would get the 50 series and would stick with a 2.5 inch pipe. The places around my neck of the woods charge around $120 just to swap out mufflers, so expect to pay an additional $50 to get the pipes bent and installed for the rest. Then you will basically have a "cat back system." As some one mentioned above, Midas just expects you to bend over and grab your ankles. I have priced them before and almost choked.
