before you post the 'welcome to last week' guy or blast me for not searching, I have a specific question about this subject...

I am getting prepared to wire my Hella FF 300's and rear work light on my roof rack. I remember a post a month or so ago debating the exterior A-pillar approach vs. the hole in roof aproach. I am going to use the A-pillar aproach and wanted to reference that discussion. I have been searching for the last hour trying to find that discussion but have not had any luck.

If someone comes across that discussion could you pls post the link or post 'how to' instructions/pix for this method of wiring.
thx.

The only links I came across when I did mine where not very descriptive on the A-pillar. I hope this helps without knowing what you are specifically looking for.

In order to route the wires down the A pillar you need to peel back or remove the black rubber corner pieces at the top and bottom of the windshield. I was just able to peel mine back.
It sounds kind of budget but I slid a straightened coat hanger up under the bottom corner piece and under the vertical molding along the windshield. I attached the wires to the coat hanger and pulled it all back down.

I am no mechanic or electrican but this was all pretty easy. In fact, if you are using some heavy gauge wires you might not even need the coat hanger. There is a pretty good gap between the glass of the windshield, the vertical molding and the A pillar itself . To reseal the two black corning pieces I used a clear marine silicone sealant.

Check out the pics in my gallery. I used "transitional" trim from Home Depot. It was about $5 per strip. It is black and has the side profile of a lightening bolt. I placed heavy duty/outdoor double-sided tape down on the windscreen and placed my wires side-by-side on the tape. I placed another strip of the tape on top of the wires and then placed the molding on top of that making sure to place the trim under the natural "lip" of the windscreen molding. For wiring, I used www.discoweb.org/lights.
