Hey Guys___ -I took my first ride in a Disco today, it was a test drive (1994, auto, 3.9L) and I must say I was impressed. My only hesitation is the fact that, it is a Auto Trans., I’ve always been a manual Trans. guy myself. Question, is there anything to be afraid of in the fact that ,it is a Auto Trans.. Are they as good ,better or worst than the Manual as far as performance, reliability and durability and longevity._______ THANKS BAYRUNNER

Its a good auto...very reliable. I also prefer manual transmissions but in the Disco I am glad I have the auto. No complaints.

10-4 on that. It's been a sweet romance with my DIsco 94.

For an automatic the 94 is great. When I changed the filter on mine at 75k it still looked like it was new now it has 125k.

The alternative to the ZF 4-speed automatic transmission in '94 was the LT-77 5-speed if I'm not mistaken. While I have not had any problems with the LT-77 in my '85 Range Rover, I know that Land Rover had difficulties with that transmission and replaced/modified it with the R-380 5-speed in '96. Most NAS 110's and 90's originally sold with the LT-77 were later upgraded to the R-380.

While a stick is fun, for off-roading I definitely prefer the automatic. If the price is right, go for it.

In general, Land Rover automatic transmissions are much more reliable that Land Rover manual transmissions.
