My rear door of my 97 Discovery will not open. I have removed the door panel and checked all of the linkage inside, It appears that the link that comes off of the lock is not connected to anything, but I didnt find what it should be connected to, and I didnt find anything floating aroudn in the bottom of the door that might have fallen off. This is the second time this has happened to my rear door so I am somewhat familiar with how it works. But after a few hours of messing with it, I havent been able to figure anything out. Any suggestions would be great, Thanks. Chris Nuzum |

I will be meeting up with Chris later today and would like attempt to help him get this problem solved if possible. If anyone has any ideas, things to check on his door, instructions, links to threads that might assist, or pics of how things should look in his door - I'd really appreciate the input. I'm not real good at these things. Thanks in advance, Jamie |

Jamie while he turns the key in the back door lift the handle at the same time he has to keep the handle up as he pulls the door open. There is a smalll spring inside that has broken or come off somehow. |

once you get it to open i would suggest to clean and lubricate the hell out of the latch. it should move freely. and have spring tension to it...... |

Not fixed yet. We decided to wait. Sea fog moved in and it was too dense for working outside, difficult to see. Fog looked cool though We'll get to it later today, I'll let you know how things work out Thanks again, Jamie |

My assistance I was useless - Chris understands the locking mechanism way better than I do. Thanks again for your input so I could at least try to help him fix it Jamie |

Did you try to open the door when it was locked and then had these problems? I have a problem where my door won't open if I try to open the door when it is locked. This really locks the door so it won't open after I unlock it. So I always have to remember to make sure the bloody thing is unlocked before lifting the handle. I have tried everything to get it open but always end up giving up. Then a couple days later it just seems to sort itself out. I have lubed the hell out of the door lock mechanism from inside with the panel pulled back but it didn't help. The best advice I can give is to drive down some rough roads to get some really good vibrations happening then see if that helps. Maybe you have the same problem I do and you tried to open the door when it was locked? I know this doesn't really solve the problem but at least you may be aware of what can cause the malfunction... at least in my case. - James |
