My '99 Disco is "wandering" when travelling at ~45 mph and above...feels like the front wheels are grabbing at troughs and/or bumps in the road. Almost feels like the steering wheel lags the direction of the wheels, and doesn't feel safe at highway speeds. Any thoughts/ideas as to the cause?? Thanks, Jon

Stock truck (tires, springs, shocks)? Miles? Original steering stabilizer? Have you rotated the tires from front to back to see if you get the same results? How many miles are on this set of tire? Etc?

Mine was doing something similar, but it was because I had bent a steering rod. As Bill said, we need more info.

Stock tires, springs, shocks, stabilizer, etc. ~55k miles on tires...they are approaching replacement...I was going to rotate them to see if that helped. Will check the bushings as well and report back. Thanks!

I'd be willing to bet new tires will fix it.

Let us know.

You might try tightening your steering box. It made quite a change on my disco. I had 65000 miles at the time of adjustment. To do this loosen the large nut that has the allen in the center, while holding the nut, turn the allen clockwise. then tighten the nut. Only go about 1/2 turn on the allen at a time. Hope this helps.

You were running at 5 PSI? Lucky your tires didn't come off the rims.

Joe, follow the shaft that goes through the firewall from the steering wheel, at the end will be the steering box.

They call me the wanderer....Oooh the wanderer. I roam around, around, around....

Well, rotating the tires was the issue. Everything was nice and tight when checked this am. New tires will be necessary in 2-3 mos....ouch. Thanks to all for your responses and advice.
