i have a 00' dII with 70k on it, never had any real work done to it, nor even a tune up.
i only notice the problem on the highway, the truck will lose power and start misfiring for about 5 second and then clean itself out and be fine. sometime it will happen a couple of times a day and other time it won't happen for a few days. also the check engine light comes on, had it tested and came up with a p1300 code, and the guy didn't know what this meant, anyone ever had this problem?

Check the code here:

http://www.iequus.com/obd_def.asp

which might give you a better idea of what's going on.

David,I just looked up on the Rave disc and looks like code P1300 means "misfire detected sufficent enough to cause catalyst damage"

I don't know what that means or what would cause it but it doesn't sound good...

per the disco II workshop manual VDR 100090:

[I checked EE's page of Products:
http://www.expeditionexchange.com/products.htm
for this manual, but did not see it.]

page 18-2-30:

Fuel injectors is where i see reference to P1300:

the fuel injectors are located beneath the air inlet manifold. they are fed a constant 3.5 bar (52 lbf/inch^^2[->psi]) fuel on the common fuel rail.
all eight fuel injectors are supplied with battery voltage via fuse number 1 located in the engine compartment fuse box. The ECM (electronic control module) controls the individual earth path for each injector via its own pin at connector C0636 of the ECM multiplug.

typical hot engine injector pulse width values:
idle = 2.5 milliseconds(ms)
peak torque(3k revs/min): = 7 ms
cylinder #1: pin 41 of connector C0636 (on ECM)
#2: pin 1
#3: pin 27
#4: pin 40
#5: pin 2
#6: pin 15
#7: pin 14
#8: pin 28

individual injectors can be measured using a multimeter. An acceptable injector resistance is:
14.5 +/- 0.7 OHMs at 20 degrees C (68F)

injectors can fail in the following ways or supply incorrect signal:
-injector actuator open circuit
-short circuit to vehicle supply
-short circuit to vehicle earth
-blocked injector
-restricted injector
-low fuel pressure

page 18-2-31:

in the event of injector signal failure any of the following symptoms may be observed:
-rough running
-difficult starting
-engine misfire
-possible catalyst damage
-high emissions
-adaptive fueling disabled
-adaptive idle speed control disabled

The ECM performs three types of fuel injector diagnostic checks:
-Output short circuit to earth
-Output short circuit to battery voltage
-Output open circuit

It then lists numerous other malfunction CODES
[a similar set for all eight injectors]

on page 18-2-32 it continues the list to:

- P CODE: P1300
- J2012 Description: Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected
- Rover Description: Catalyst damaging level of misfire on more than one cylinder.

pages 18-2-88 and 18-2-89 show how to disassemble to get the injectors and what to do to repair/replace them. E-mail seaprately if you desire/require the repair info also.

john
