Jansen, I just did this on my '97 D1. The d90.com link above actually makes it sound more difficult than it really is, but follow those instructions. One thing I might add: jack up the front of the vehicle pretty high, place jackstands under the frame, and allow the front axle to drop. However, watch the tension on your flexible brake lines. You might support the axle slightly with the jack if there is a problem. The reason for this is to give you all of the space you need to postion the oil pan during reassembly. If you are not careful, simply arranging the oil pan into position could cause you to disrupt the gasket sealer by smearing it onto extruding objects, thereby rendering the new seal useless. Depending on your situation, I would think long and hard about this job if you do not have a way to lift the vehicle. I suppose it could be done, but you definitely would have oil in your face, and you stand a very high probability of disrupting the gasket sealant during reassembly. However, go for it. You would be surprised what you will learn doing it yourself. |
