Disco TD5?

I am trying to find one and am really wanting the diesel engine. Now, would you recommend a TD5 Disco. If not, why? Also I am just looking for the most reliable year that they have had out. I don't know if the TD5 was a good engine but it is a diesel. If you Had to go Disco go D1 with 300 Tdi. No electronics, will run with only one hot wire to fuel shut-off. Infact you could use a couple lantern batteries and push start it in an emergency.... Does that still require the ECU??? Also, I am planning on buying a D1 to do the conversion in. I want to get rid of having to rely on electronics. Will this conversion do that for me? Thanks.
