I am trying to buy a non expensive but nice roof rack. I read about Surco racks and they seem to be nice racks. Has anybody heard any good or bad things about these guys?

Thanks,

Gus

they are weak compared to the ones welded but if you need a rack and have little money it will work.

not a big fan of the surco....mostly because I dont like the flat panels on the sides. kinda flimsy too...for a low priced rack I like the steel horse.

Don't buy one from "team performance" online. Ordered one Haven't seen it yet but they wasted not time in billing my credit card. I've called left messages and e-mailed. no replys no rack. fyi

I have had one for about 3 years. I agree with both Rob and Keynote on the comparison to welded and the flat panels.
When I bought the rack I didn't want to spend the money at the time on a full rack, "traveling with the dogs and daughter left little room inside." When it dies I will buy a full rack.

I will say it has held up a lot better than I thought. I have loaded that thing down with a ton of weight with no problems.

It is starting to show surface rust in certain areas but that's not a big deal.

So, if inexpensive is what you are looking for then that's the way to go. If that's all you are looking to add to your truck you may think about saving a little longer and getting the full rack.

I would keep an eye out for someone selling theirs.

FWIW!

Ken

Hi:

I bought one about 2 years ago and it seems to hold pretty well for the price. The mounts are very strong but the rack is made of Aluminum and this is why it may seem a little weak but it is very light and can handle most situations. I suggest installing some sort of flooring. When I use it, I just place some plywood on the floor and load it up with all my camping gear. But if you have money to spend, I would go for an expedition rack. For around $250 you can't beat the price of a surco rack.

Glad I came across this post. I really want a roof rack but I also like parking my disco in the garage. Once I get my new tires (hopefully today) I'll measure and see how much room I have to get in the garage and start from there. Does anyone know the lowest profile rack out there? Or at least one that is light enough for one person to get it on and off?

For what people said. This Surco rack seems to be the right one for me. #1 Because is reliable, #2 cheap, and #3 easy to remove.

Thanks,

Gus.

I have a 50x50 surco roof rack and i like it. I drilled some holes in it and mounted 4 kc lights on the front and i think it looks pretty cool. The rack has held up to everything i put it through so far. It was only 160 from J.C Whitney. It was well worth that in my opinion.

Hey for around the same price consider the Yakima Megawarrior rack, I had it on my RRC and now my Disco. Easy on and off and welded. Plus you can add all the Yakima goodies.

Pretty nice looking rack. I wonder what it would look like if he put a bend in it like the adventure rack.

Do you have one of his racks? If so do you have any pictures of it on your truck?

Leigh, that's the guy that makes the racks and sells them on eBay (like Keynote mentioned in his post). Does anyone know how much that rack weighs?

he has a rack on ebay that is 60" X I think 36" that ways 30 pounds. I have e-mailed him a few times and he is looking for someone in flagstaf who has a disco to use as a model so he can design a rack for our trucks. I had mentioned to him about following the contour of the roof.
