I'm ditching the stock 18" wheels/tires from my 2002 Disco for some 16s and more aggressive off-road treads. I still need to use my truck as a daily driver (~50 highway miles/day) so I need something with decent road manners (not necessarily great) and durability. I'm nervous that I will give up too much of that by going to a dedicated "mud terrain" (not worried as much about the noise as I am having to replace them after a year because of rapid wear). I'm located in central Florida where going off-road means a lot of MUD. I was all set to go with the BFG All-Terrain KOs until some local folks advised against it because the lugs don't shed the mud quickly enough. I'm considering the Dunlop Rover RTs but am having rouble finding them locally. Ideally I would have a set for on and off-road, but my budget can't take it right now and I would actually prefer a more aggressive look full-time. I've read through many of the tire posts on the site. I'm really interested in hearing from folks from Florida or who have to deal with the type of mud we have down here (may be limited to gulf coast states). Any help is appreciated, Thanks! |

Anyone have any experience with the Cooper Discoverer ST-Cs or STTs? They look like they might fit the bill. |

"All-Terrain" would not be the right choice for mud, hence the comments. You could get a set of nato wheels and MTs and switch them out when you go offroad. If you want mud shedding, get a set of George's Goodyear G90/wolf wheel combos...http://www.roversdownsouth.com/rim.htm |

I forgot to mention that while I would ideally have a dedicated set of offroad tires/wheels. My budget won't really allow that right now. Or more correctly, my budget could, but my wife won't. Therefore, I need a set of tires that will serve both functions. I realize that I'll be compromising performance on both ends. I just want to find the tire that will minimize the compromise. |
