I need a good machine shop in the Charlotte area that has a large arbor press. I am replacing all of my bushings with my 6-ton press, but I have decided that several of the larger bushings would be easier with a 40-ton press.

I have actually called around and nobody does this sort of thing anymore. Sure, they can port, polish, and blueprint your heads (NASCAR wannabees), but they don't do the simple stuff anymore. If they say they can try, they always say "I don't know, bring it by and let me look at it, I'm not sure."

I base this rant on the fact that my brother-in-law is from Cleveland, and right near them is a machine shop that does EVERYTHING quickly and cheaply. They don't even ask what it is. Their attitude is simply "I don't care what is, I can do it, just bring it by." They usually are covered up in work also. I can't find that around here in Charlotte.

Anyhow, original question: is there a good (obviously secret) machine shop in the Charlotte area?

Which bushings did you get? Let me know how you like them I want to do mine and am not sure which bushings to use. Good luck finding a shop.

Brian,

I will make a few calls and see if I can find anything. I'll email you if I do.

There used to be one on Graham down around 30th. Also I've had some work done by CCC truck parts in the Atando Industrial Park, (off Graham also).

P.S.

They balanced a D/S for me in ~4hrs, & only charged me $50.00. I think they might be what you're looking for.
