My highlift jack and the off road base have arrived. I will pick them up later today. I have a few quetions:

Where do I get the hardware for mounting it to the adventure roof rack?

Because of our salt air, it won't be up there full time and exposed. Will I be able to leave the mounting hardware on my rack all the time?

Do you have any recommendations for the best position when mounting it to roof rack? (it is the 60" steel jack, heavy contents of frig are located in the cargo area on the passenger side)

Thanks in advance, Jamie

Jamie-

There are several out there. The one that comes to mind is Trek Outfitters. I usually use their Hi-Lift mounts to hold my sand ladders on, so they should manage the Hi-Lift just fine.

trek outfitters, rover solutions, safarigard, and atlantic british all have hi-lift mounts. Roversolutions has the best looking one in my opinion for the adventure rack, it is low profile, and barely even noticeable.

The guys I've wheeled with in the barrens, including myself, just bungee the thing onto the roof rack on the inside of the side bars. Its a struggle to get it down, but we don't use them much if at all. A strategic patch of duct tape acts as a soft pad to prevent scratching the rack and keep it quiet.

Jamie,

I had the same concerns when I got my Hi-Lift jack. Some of my concerns about placement of the jack were: Weight, exposure, & convenience.

Weight- the weight of the heavy Hi-Lift jack MIGHT affect the performance of my vehicle when placed in certain locations (ie. up high on the roof rack). Keeping as low a center of gravity as possible is a HIGH priority to me. When I pack I try and keep heavy items off the roof and as low as possible. For this reason I've customized my cargo space to my liking.

Exposure- exposure to the elements seems to take it's toll on the jack and MIGHT have adverse affects on it. I'd hate to find this out on the trail.

Convenience- should be convenient to access.

These are just some concerns I had and was wondering if anyone else had these same concerns, and if so, how were they dealth with?

I currently strap my Hi-Lift jack to the frame of the rear passenger seats. This wouldn't work if I had the 60" jack. I thought of fabbing a bracket for it in this location but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Trek Outfitters and Atlantic British both attach to the roof rack and I'm not sure if they work with the Adventure rack.

Safari Gard attaches to the rear spare tire and puts even more weight on the already overloaded rear door.

Roversolutions seems to be a hobby or side business of Kyles and, in case you haven't figured it out already on your own, he's VERY particular about who he deals with. Think of it as a store for "Lounge Members Only". I personally haven't seen any of the products first hand, but they seem to be very thought out and well made. As I've said before, say what you want about the man, he definitely designs and builds some nice stuff!!!

All this here is just my opinion, and just so we're clear, I don't claim to be anything other than a NEWBIE! And damn proud of it!!! LOL

Jamie, you seem like a nice person and I hope this info has helped in some way. Also, might want to check out the High-Lift jack fix kit and the jack mate, if you haven't already. Both items can be found on EE's website and seem like valuable accessories. Good Luck

Can anybody point me at a picture of the Rover Solutions mount? Having one shipped to the UK will probably be prohibitively expensive, but you never know...

Thanks, Jamie

p.s. in my opinion, Kyle is one of the most consistent members on this board :-)

Ah ha, thanks Jim. Quite a neat solution, that.

The laptop mount made me smile. A friend of mine recently trashed the side of his Range Rover because he was too busy looking at the GPS track on his laptop than the real track in front of him. He now has a waypoint for the tree that he hit :-)

OK, I found the flaw in my plan and it's pretty funny. I got the jack home in my backseat by resting the base of it on the floorboard up at an angle to the headrest on the other side. It is humongous and also very heavy, but I was able to drag it into the garage. I have no clue how I am going to manage to get it up on the roof or back down again when I need to use it. It has a waterproof cover to help protect the working parts.

This was a pretty cool surprise - it's black instead of red, so maybe it will blend in with my roof rack?

Jamie,

That means you have the stamped steel/cast version instead of the all cast version. The all cast one is powdercoated red and the stamped steel/cast one is painted black. I don't know of any hi-lift mount that allows it to be mounted to the roofrack with that waterproof case on it. Good Luck

send me $75 and I'll send you 2 bolts, 2 nuts, and 4 washers and you can mount it anywhere you want. OR you can save your cash and go to the hardware store and get these items for a few bucks and use your creativity to find a spot to drill a couple of holes somewhere (anywhere you want) and bolt that bandit on.
