Can somebody give me a rough idea of how often you should change the plugs on a '94 Discovery 3.9 ltr. I have had the Disco for about a year and am planning on taking a road trip soon. I pulled a plug the other day and it was all white on the end, I can't remember what this means. Any advice would be great. Thanks, Sean |

Depends on how white it was. If it was coated with white crusty stuff thats indicative of a lean burn condition. I change mine whenever I get around to it. I've changed them twice now and have owned mine for about 30K. Probably a little to often, but its pretty easy and makes me feel better. |

Sean, I bought the Disco with 40 kmi on the clock, and decided to change the plugs at ~110kmi - for the only reason, so they won't fuse themselves to the threads. The plugs were as clean as they get. Haven't looked at them since (at 144kmi). Peter |

I change mine at every oil change. They are usually all black and no longer working properly. I have other issues, though. |

It only takes a little longer, and is very easy to also change wires, distributor cap and rotor all aftermarket parts for less than 100 bucks. Either way get a tube of dielectric grease to fill the rubber wire boot before plugging on to new spark plug. Helps keep water/moisture out. Be carefull to do one wire at a time,or tag them, you dont want to change the firing order. |

you dont need to change the cap, rotor and wires every time get some good wires such as magnecore's and a quality brass terminal cap and rotor such as Beck Arnly and they will last a long long time. the brass terminals can be cleaned with a file over and over without any problems. standard resistor copper core plugs(less the $1) will go 12000 to 15000 miles without any problems. when you change them put a small spot of anti-sieze on the threads and they will come back out easy every time. I will agree with Rick on the dielectric grease in the boots it makes them pop back off nice at the next change MM |
