In one of the threads regarding the new Disco/LR3 (dumb name), it was noted that it will share a common 113" wheelbase with the Explorer. We are uncertain if they will share a frame, suspension, etc., but I saw this tidbit in the newspaper and thought I would toss it out. The 2004 Explorer has a 239-hp/282-ft/lbs torque 4.6l aluminum V-8. Is this already the same powerplant in the current Disco? They do have exactly the same compression ratio at 9.40:1. Is it possible this engine will be installed into the LR3? Like I said, I saw that in the paper and thought it was interesting food for thought. |

Micheal, the two engines are not the same. The 4.6 in the Exploder is a SOHC engine originally used in the 97 Ford F 150. The 4.6 in the LR is based off of an old Buick design from the 60's. It is OHV. From what I have heard the "LR3" will have an engine similiar to the Ford 4.6 in architecture but tuned for more power. It also may be a 4.0. As you mention they share the same wheelbase and suspension design so I am speculating it will use the explorer frame. But, this is certainly not fact. |

The 113" WB is simply pure coincidence? |

yes... its the same as the range rover. the t5 is set up for indy suspension or solid axles as it will spawn the next defender as well as the range sport. |
