I know this subject has been beaten to death, but after a long time searching i couldn't find a definative answer. For my d1 I have room for two lights on my brush bar and want the best all-around performance for primarily on-road driving. The Hella 4000 euro beam with city lights and the 500 driving light kit have caught my interest, but all the choices are mystifying. suggestions would be greatly appreciated... |

100W Hella Rally 5000's get me flashed quite a bit on the road, for on road driving, unless your in rural areas, you'll be better with 55W. Cheers Jack |

Chris the Euro's are driving lights to be used with highbeams or off road. The 4000 fogs might work as not to melt oncoming traffic. Expedition Exchange has super write ups on Hella check it out. https://www.expeditionexchange.com/hella/ -JIm

|quote{...best all-around performance for primarily on-road driving.} Check out IPF lights at www.arbusa.com. I am running a set of the J01CB on the Pig. Here's a pic to show you what they look like installed. http://www.discoweb.org/gwnf2/Paul%20Rocks.3.jpg I really dig the fact that I can run the fogs while on the road in crap weather. The little light is great for illuminating rocks on the trail. |

I have some Pro Comps, they were like $100 and I like them a lot. They are 8" driving beams and really light up the road nice. I have them aimed down a little more than I should so they dont blind people. You might want to consider them if you are looking for something a little cheaper. I have had Hella 500 before and they looked way too small on my Disco. |

Jan, Any auxiliary light with a bulb power greater than 55W is not legal for road use in the US. On most of the packaging of these lamps you will see a disclaimer that says "For offroad use only" |

Craig, at least I did not tell him to buy Blazer off road lights. I do like my procomps and think they are 2legit to quit . Of course I would rather have the dual beam warns, but I figured I should not spend that much on something I cant use much. Matt |

I used to run ProComps. I had the 130 Watt ones. They were the best bang for the buck. Only 35 bucks for two. I got me some Hella 2000s to replace them. Got the Hellas for a low price and the are better than the ProComps. Does anyone have any experience with the Hella FF300 light? I am thinking about getting four of those for my 109 on a low profile light bar. Paul, when I rode in your Disco, I was mightly impressed by how well your 4 hellas on the roof rack lit up the trail in front of us. I've been wanting to get the 4000s but they would stick up too high and I'd probably bust em' up. Max T. |

I heard that if you put Hella bulbs into the ProComps you get more light out of them.

Max, Thanks for the compliment. For that reason of "lighting up the trail" I really enjoy using the IPFs that I listed above. Don't ever put Hella 4k's on that beautiful Series of yours. It just wouldn't be right. |

You can get bright ass lights at wal-mart for like $10. Not what I did but a bunch of my buddies have and they're pretty bright. Still not like my 4000s though...hehe |

Brad, Hahahahaha. Everytime I am at wal-mart I look at those things and chuckle. I'd like a good light cause I really only want to buy lights once. I'd like to get lights up top since the 109 gets used a lot on backroads (most of these roads aren't even paved). The FF 300s look to be pretty good but I am tempted to just go to Autozone and buy 4 hella 550s and be done with it. Chris, I've heard the black magics being compared the 4000s. Of course, they pale in comparison but they do have a plastic housing (I really don't care but some people do. My 2000s have a plastic housings but I'll accept that since they were like 45 bucks for both). They look like a black hole when they are off which is pretty cool. I haven't seen them in action though. Yea Paul, I think your rig is the shit. That is unless the locals don't mistake it for a UFO and blast it into tiny pieces. Hehehehehehe..... I hope I can make it again to the Safari. If I actually do come, I'll be there for the entire weekend instead of bailing out at noon on Saturday like I've done every year before. Max T. |
