Well after lurking for a couple of weeks I think it is time to make my first post. I am currently in the market for either a 2003 or 2004 Discovery as a replacement for my infiniti fx35. I had a 2000 discovery that in spite of its quirks I loved it dearly. With that being said, outside of the cosmetic front end differences, the engine, and the manual locker for the center differential is there anything I should really be aware of concerning the newer models. In addition I am trying to find the best deals in the midatlantic area. I have been speaking with both Rosenthal Land Rover and Alexandria Land Rover about my complex situation. I am trying to line up and appointment with the LR dealer in Charlotte NC as I will be there later this week on business. Any thoughts or ideas would be great. Finally - for those of your that may be in posession of the S models, any regrets about looking at something like the SE? Thanks TIM |

Well, how do you plan on using the truck? Is more HP or the diff lock imporant to you? Do you off road or tow? Personally, I wouldn't buy new. Too much depreciation. |

I purchases a 2004 S back in November and have absolutly no regrets about not getting the SE. I don't need the associated luxury of the SE/HSE as the truck will spend most weekends in the mountains getting dirty anyway. Also, if you are planning on spending any appreciable time off-road get the '04 with CDL. FWIW, Lance |

I would get a second hand 2003 SE. Seems to make more sense to me than paying the same for a 2004 S. There are lots of 03 models that havent even had to get their oil changed yet. I have an 01 and really wish I has the 4.6, but I plan on buying a used 04 in a year and a half or so. Good luck........why dont you like your FX? I think they are hideous looking but I figured they would be a nice CAR |

The FX earned me a speeding ticket and the reality is that i simply do not need it. It is a nice *car* as you say, plenty fast. Bottomline is that I miss my disco that the soon to be ex wife made me get rid of in lieu of her suburban Z71. Oh well - now to try out my negotiating skills. TIM

If you plan on doing any offroad driving, the 04 with the cdl will give you better performance and is more mechanically sympathetic to other parts of the vehicle when used properly...In the long run this may help offset the price difference between the 03 and the 04. |

As one who's been down that road, my heart goes out to you brother hehehe! The 2k has the spud on the t-case, all you need is a shifter assembly out of a D1 & you got a CDL for ~15K less that an 04. I'd like the 4.6 & the facelift, but just can't justify the cost premium. |
