At least i think it is the gearbox. towards the rear of the drive shaft next to the round-looking item. Sorry, novice mechanic here.

I noticed a slight amount of oil. Doesn't drip on the driveway at all hardly but definitely a leak. I know I know - not a rover if it doesn't leak but...long term. remedies for this?

How does the fluid taste....is it sweet or bitter? Just kidding! What color is the fluid? Red fluid is trans. Rovers usually do leak, but, personally, I would fix a trans leak. It is a lot harder to check the fluid levels than engine oil. Hopefully it is just your pan gasket, and this is really easy to fix. Could be a cooler line, also fairly easy. So how about that fluid color?

Well leaking gearbox should be red unless you have very dirt fluid, which is possible I supposse. Gear oil from the t-case could be leaking, it is brown in color. If it is gear oil you should be able to smell it.........it smells horrible! Put your nose up to it and take a good whiff.

i will check again but don't remember a foul smell at all

i guess it could be dirty fluid - had it changed about 20K ago. I am leaning towards something else though.

Chances are if it was changed 20k ago it would not be so dirty that it looked brown. It really must be tcase fluid then. If you happen to have a digital camera you could take a picture of where it it leaking from. If you slide underneath your truck you should be able to get an idea of where it is coming from.

Yer I have the same deal with mine it’s most likely the t-case if it’s brown. I didn’t notice it since it drips directly on to the cross member. I just happened to be spending an evening under the truck sipping a beer…don’t ask, when I noticed it. Its going in tomorrow, with just 4k left on the warranty things are starting to happen!

I will post a picture as soon as possible. When I had a look underneath the other day I could also see coolant - looked like it was coming from up front some where dripping down over the transmission. My coolant level has been dropping very slowly. Seems to get to a certain level and then doesn't drop anymore.
Could this be a leaking head gasket?
I just had a valve job about 6K ago. Maybe the gasket wasn't replaced correctly?

Any advice would be appreiciated.
