Does anyone know where I can get the best deal on a new headliner for a D1 w/o sunroofs? Mine is sagging really bad, almost as bad as my old RR did.....I've got a new mirror coming and plan to take off the factory roof rails and would like to do all three at the same time.

Thanks

Kevin,

I just finished replacing my headliner on my 96. I'll save you some time because I read a lot of advice that was put out there and yet I did not head it all. Although my headliner looks good it does look like I did it myself. If I had to do the whole thing over again I would remove the headliner; take off the old fabric and then have someone else match the color and install the fabric on the headliner. then I would put everything back myself.
If you want to do it yourself they were selling OEM headliners on ebay for $85.00 last I saw.
You have mail.

Rob,
Your repair looks great! Couple of questions though....What is the silver looking insulating material that you put in there? Is that what I will find if I take the liner down or is it something else? How did you go about attaching the liner to the fiber board?
Thanks in advance, sorry my email sucks so bad.

Kevin,

That was not my headliner that was sent to me by a discoweber. The silver is some insulation he put down. He didn't have the 2 sunroofs so while the headliner was down he put some insulation on the roof.
Also, don't be confused as you see in the write up that guy had a professional install the fabric. He just took the headliner down, cleaned it and put it back up. That's what I would reccomend. I don't have pictures of mine that I did myself but mine did not turn out as good as those pictures. But if you want to do it there is a product that 3M used to spray on. I look and see what it is.

Rob, thanks for the clarification...I think that's what I'll probably do myself, considering I know nothing of upholstery!

Thanks again

I used some spray in bedliner that I got from PEPBOYS, basically I had to remove the old orange sticky foam stuff from the cloth and the pad (that was a pain in the rear) but after getting both surfaces clean I put some of this spray on adhesive smoothed out the cloth material and it actually looks OK. I only did the edges of the headliner and just used some tacks on the middle since I did not want to take the whole thing out. But once I have time I will remove the entire thing and do the whole job properly. The spray on adhesive though worked better than I though, it actually let me make corrections. I had to pull the cloth down several times and smooth it out just right to make it look nice and every time it adhere back to the pad with no problems.

Kevin: Thanks...that would be my Disco. For whatever reason, Ho Chung doesn't want to post all that info here about a headliner. So, if you guys want to keep passing it around to other Disco owners that may be the best way to share the information.

Rob: Turned out OK I hope? You should try and get together with the rest of us in late March for The Old North State run over in western NC...look under the events section for more details.

Drew, whats with the insulation you added along the roof? Is it for sound deadening or is it something that functions to hold the headliner in?

It's a jute felt insulation material covered by a thin layer of alumnimum. Used it for both sound and heat insulation. Costs aproximately $23 for a huge roll from Summit Racing (you need about 1 1/3 rolls). Cut it to fit the ceiling, wrap the edges in HVAC tape from Home Depot and glued to metal roof with 3M Super 77 spray adhesive and then taped the edges to the ceiling to provide extra support. Seems to provide more of a heat insulating factor than a sound deadener...probably most effective for those who live in hot climates. I wouldn't pull the headliner just to add it, but figured since it was already out it couldn't hurt.

Take a look at this e-Bay auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2462686743&categor y=42612

I have no connection to the seller, but they appear to know the correct Land Rover material width, thickness and colors. I think I paid a little less than the $85 advertised price, but if you can't find it locally this may be a good source.

Drew,

I'm not sure but I think they did not post your article because it included pages from the manual that may be copywrited. It defintely should be in the tech section though. With the article you wrote with the pictures you took.

Check this website out. On the bottom there is a selection area the 60" is for range rovers. The prices are reasonable I think its $28 for 2 yards not bad shipping is fixed so I would recommend.
