I saw a thread on the site awhile back about this issue. Can someone point me in the right direction? I need to know if I have to remove the entire panel and sub to get into the inner workings of the latch or can I disect it from the outside? |

It sounds to me like you will be needing a new rear taildoor latch. The only way to access the latch is to remove the entire rear door panel, but you will need to remove the outter door handle to remove the latch as well. good luck |

first try lubricating and cleaning the latch mechanism. these get full of crud and do not work properlly. use a lot of lubrication while working the latch .... |

The latch is loose. e.g. when I squeeze the handle it does not have a recoil. I hope this is making sense. Also the lock mechanism goes down when I try and open the latch without the key. |

ya try lubing the shit out of it. and working it like mad while holding up on the handle. there should be a spring recoil action to it! but i do not under stand the loose part. try to post a picture! ! |

Barry my guess is that the small spring in your door has broken. To check this pull up the locking knob on your rear door up see if it falls back down when you let go. It will not fall all the way back down just maybe a 1/4 inch. As far as fixing it do a searcg on rear door and spring |

David Lara might not have many posts, but his advice is sound. A LR newbie he is most definitely not. |

What Brad said. Wish i could buy that damn spring for .39 instead of the entire frickin latch. I'm in the same boat barry. whatever you do, dont buy a new actuator yet. I bet its the wacky little spring. Just wait, pretty soon it won't open at all. |

Does anyone have a picture of the spring? I may be able to duplicate it and ship you guys out a couple. Mine has done the same thing but the spring was gone. I can't really tell from the workshop manual which one it was. I have a ton of springs here at work so I'll give it a shot. Just need a pic with some kind of dimensions given. Ken
