I have a 96 discovery. The front engine seal was leaking. ANd the other day it started getting real bad. Almost a quart a day. So i thought it was the front engine seal getting worse. SO anyhow i took the rover to the garage. And they replaced the front engine seal like i told them too. There was so much oil everywhere that they couldnt really tell where it was coming from. So after the fact. It turns out that the engine dome seal was leaking. Well thats what they said. I have no landrover dealer near me. THis was a local garage in my area. JUst wondering how many hours it might take to change this seal. And maybe should i change anything else while having everything apart.
Thanks
Sean

Check the oil cooler lines while you're at it.

Replace your breather hoses!

front crank seal failure (especially a bad one) is indicative of a blocker breather (damn emmissions crap).

Why don't you degrease the engine and then isolate the leak instead of replacing parts blindly.

There is no such thing as a "dome seal". There is a front seal, oil cooler lines, a timing cover seal . . . but no dome seal. Wash it off, run it, and see where it leaks.

I had a similar issue to yours on my d1. It was basically pouring out oil in the same vicinity. It was the oil pressure sender...Some call it oil pressure switch. A common failure.

I'm with Will. My 95 leak went from mild to "I'm embarrased to drive it" almost overnight. I was ready to sell it! Finally got the gumption to take it to the dealer (expecting a $1500 repair bill). Got it back a few days later for $56 and no more oil leak!!!! Turns out the pressure switch has a known problem of litterally blowing a hole in itself and shooting oil everywhere. Cheap and easy to replace.
