Hi guys, Just found out from the dealer that the bad idle in my 1999 V8 Disco is due to a computer virus. Is $200 to reformat the computer OK? Also could I have got the virus from my neighbours Explorer ( they are both made by Ford ??) or only another Disco? Mister M |

200 is a bargain. It cost me 350 from the stupid dealer. Good luck. |

Unless you pluged the two cars together for some reason how could you get a virus from another car, computer viruses don't travel through the air. |

That should teach you to not open unsolicited email while driving! When your dealer reformats your computer, you might consider having them install an updated driver too, just as a precaution. |

LOL, it sounds like a scam to get customers to pay for a component that came faulty from the factory. |

I know you shouldn't laugh at your own joke, so I wont - but really, how much of the ill feeling toward the disco is generated by dealer/service center bullshit designed to get more money out of you? Half the bastard dealers I know would have tried that one on if they had thought of it. ( I trust an auto dealer about as far as I can throw a lawyer ). Mister M for Mug |

Oh yeah Mister anonymous, maybe the remote door opener thing could have had something to do with it. That talks over the air hey. Well its possible is all I'm saying. Mister M |

I know you are just kidding so I won't bust your balls but your remote door opener works by sending out a radio frequency which isn't digital and doesn't send its signal in the form of binary digits like an infared device such as a tv remote does. No digits = no virus. Your signal reciever COULD possibly (really big could) pick up a radio frequency from another RF device, have some conflict and fry something in the computer but that wouldn't be a virus. Sorry for being anal, Im just a half drunk computer geek. |

Anytime! Good to hear about the Ospreys..... More distance, and less time in the air, between the tarmac and the LZ, the better IMHO.... -L |
