Found a decent 95 disco for sale. 108K miles minor timing cover leak only. $4500 obo, will offer 4K.

Only problem is this: The guy tells me he has been using it for trailing 5500 lb's of Corvette for the last 2 years, and he's selling it because the disco is not really up to that kind of towing on a regular basis. He's got a Yukon for that now. Question is, has this kind of towing damaged or worn out the drivetrain/transmission, or should I not be concerned about this?

Are there any other pointers to watch out for a 95?

Thanks muchly

Dean

How much towing did he do? I had a boat that weighed about the same for four years and towed it a lot. Mine is a 94 disco and it was a little slow going as far as power but the transmission is plenty strong. I have not towed for two years and everything is still great. I dropped the trans pan and did a service and everything was perfectly clean.
good luck

Dean , I would take a pass man. There are alot of nice trucks that pass through here cheaper...Something tells me you will see some trans issues on that one...

I'd tell the guy the Yukon is not made for that kind of towing either.

I would say pass unless you are willing to put in a new transmission. FWIW - I just bought a '98 LSE with 82K & a bad transmission for $4500, but I knew what I was getting into and the rest of the rig is near-perfect. I don't know what they were towing, but whatever it was it had trailer brakes.

The guy did about 20K since he bought it, and several long trips with the trailer, I dunno how much of that 20K was with or without the trailer.

I thought that was a decent price, from what I've seen online that's oone of the cheapest I've seen. They seem to range from 4K to 11K for 94/95!

Can someone tell me if the service codes under the seat will show any kind of transmission problems? Sorry I'm not too familiar with early D1s.

Thanks all and I'd welcome any more advice (or discos if you know of one).

Dean
