I'm tired of taking my rover to the dealer so I ask...Its been very cold in Idaho this winter. Last week while changing my oil I noticed that the area around the water pump on the front of the engine is sweating/oily looking/seeping but not dripping. I'm still under warranty but I wonder if this is a problem I need to deal with immediately or if it can wait. The last couple weeks have been in the 30's and I have not observed any loss in coolant. However, it does appear that the level went down about 3/8" since the last time I had the hood up (last oil change). Temperatures in January and February were below 0 for a number of weeks. Do I have a water pump on verge of failure, bad gasket, etc. Any help would be great.

IF you still have a warranty at least get it documented by the dealer. I would push to get it fixed asap.

I currently have a coolant leak as well. Doesn't drop alot but enough to be concerned. I crawled
underneath but cannot find the source. It is dripping down - looks like from above the trannsmission somewhere. Any ideas?

Reid,
Some folks here have complained about colder temperatures causing their leaks. Due to the seals contracting etc. I had me radiator replaced under warranty.

If i were you I would take it to the dealer - will not cost you anything. It is under warranty - make them fix it. The original radiators on my year are a known problem.

Hey Reid, I recently changed my water pump in my 2000 D2 about two weeks ago, under warrenty thank God, I have 48K on my truck now. Turns out that the bolts that hold the water pump on the block were leaking. This was a visible leaking, coolant loss was dramtic. Now that they changed the pump, my POS has been running really rough and burning lots of gas, not really because of the pump but just in general LRs suck in terms of their engines.

I just fixed a coolent leak on a 99 Disco 1. It was leaking at the intake manifold and running down the transmission bell housing. The driver's side first bolts (from the fire wall) were finger tight. Appearently this is common. Maybe different for the 2000?

Thanks for the input, I have had my radiator and throttle heater replaced already under warranty. I know I should arrange to take it in. I'm quite certain it's leaking around the water pump. I just don't like being without my rover for 3-4 days. Dealer is 100 plus miles away. They've always sent a truck to take it down, but I have to go pick it up. Just a real inconvience. I'd rather go fishing than drive to Salt Lake on the weekend. Oh well, until I get it done I'm just prolonging the inevitable. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get a free dose of Fuel conditioner....
