I rolled down my driver window today and it would not roll back up. I heard the motor turning, but it didn't seem to lift. I pulled the door panel off and was able to lift the window a bit and get it to catch the motor again, but I cannot roll it down all the way or it will stay down again.

I guess something is wrong with the teeth on the motor, nothing with the regulator.

Anyone have any advise to offer before I spend assloads on a new window motor?

Thanks

Check the plastic washer-shaped slides in the grooves of the regulator. Sounds like they might be going bad...

It's not your motor as you say that is still working. Most likely a problem with the regulator. I had the same problem with mine. Replaced the regulator and that was it.

BJ,

I just finished having the same problem. Put your hand under the glass to help it lift as far as it can (it won't go far) while pushing the window button up. The gently push on the glass thru the upper hole in the door panel while pushing the button. If you're lucky it will go right up.

Mine did the same, it was the regulator. LR has been having problems with them and they replaced mine.

Good Luck, Jamie

BJ, When I had this problem with my truck, I removed the door panel and vapor barrier to find the gear sector of the regulator lying in the bottom of the door. I proceeded to remove the regulator and motor as an assembly after securing the glass in the full up position with tape. Determining the position of the gear sector was not difficult. A few quick beads with the mig welder had the assembly ready to be re-installed Reconnecting the wire harness to the window switch allowed adjusting the regulator to ease reattaching of the window glass. Procedure took approximately 1 hour. Hope this is of some use.

Same here, the gear just broke off at the spot welds. Suppose the welding was done just before tea break..........

Again I really don't think the problem is in the regulator. The plastic wheel is off of one of the bottom arms, but the arm in staying in the track as it should and it looks like that has been broken for a long time.

The problem is when the window goes ALL the way down the regulator gear and the motor gear no longer work together as they should. When I lift it a bit, the motor catches again and the window will roll up.

BJ, I would try replacing the broken plastic wheel. Being broken off, the missing wheel probably allows enough play between the gear sector of the regulator, and gear wheel on the window motor. for them to lose contact at the bottom of the stroke. Hence needing the slight push up to engage the gear teeth again. At least the plastic gear wheel is one of the least expensive door parts to replace.

Can I get just the plastic wheel? I thought nobody offered them, just the regulator as a whole.

You can get a plastic wheel (it's actually a plastic washer) very similar to the one that's part of the regulator at Home Depot or other large nationwide hardware store. If you search the archives you'll find a picture of one and everything...
