Does the engine turn over at all? If not, then probably your starter. If it does, considering what you've done I'd look at the fuel system. Most likely clogged filter? Or bad pump? Are you getting a spark at your plugs?

Check the ignition coil connections or the unit itself. If its bad it will allow the engine to turn but it will not crank up!!!

that's a possibility. I'm not sure where the bleed valve is or if there even is one. If there is then you can check to see if you've got fuel pressure.

Mark,
Before you start changing parts blindly, go back to basic troubleshooting steps. Remember you need four things to run and engine, fuel, air, compression and spark.

Air is a simple one, unless you have a completely plugged air filter.

Spark. Take off the middle wire from the dist and check to make sure it has good spark. If it does, then put it back and check it again at the plug wire. You should have solid spark in both areas.

Fuel, make sure you have gas. I can't tell you how many times a customer will tow their vehicle to my shop and all they did was run out of gas. Make sure that gas is getting to the injector rails.

If fuel and spark is good, then the next thing is to remove the spark plugs and start looking in the engine i.e. compression.

Step by step. Which every your missing, then focus on the cause.

Might sound simple, or even crazy -- but check the battery. Sometimes it will have enough juice to crank or sound like it's cranking, but not enough to start. I've jumped at least 10 cars in the past yr or so that have had this problem. My battery died this winter, and I had driven it the day before.

It's a simple check that may be worthwhile.

My 96 had a similar problem. Would crank and not start. Fuel pump was not turning on. I relieved the pressure in the tank by opening the gas cap and it started right up. Have yet to figure out exactly what was happening, but some on this board suggested clogged vent line to tank and/or weak fuel pump. Currently driving with a not-so-tight cap and no more problems since July. If you do a search you'll see the chain of comments.

I had all sorts of problems with my fuel pump on my 96. First Land Rover attempted to reset my alarm some how using the computer. The second visit they reprogrammed the alarm again for free. The third visit they fixed the fuel pump wiring. Then on the forth visit or so Land Rover replace the pump but I still had problems. Then they thought it was the immobolizer so they reprogrammed that a couple of more times. Then I bought a fuel relay and installed that. Then I called another Land Rover dealer and asked them for advice and they got me to do a bunch of tricks with the key remote and unlocking and locking the doors and holding the buttons down for 5 seconds and a bunch of other crap.

Must have used up 5+ tows to the dealer in about 3 months. Most frustrating thing in the world cause when she would run it was running great then all of a sudden no starting!!! Then I would try later on and bingo it would start again! I would stop to get coffee and just let the thing run.

I then learned that you can hear the fuel pump whine quite easily once you have the key in the run position. Just go to the back and listen and you should be able to hear it no problem. The last time I had a problem, the truck luckily wouldn't start in my driveway. I couldn't hear the pump so I removed the molding for the rear carpet and pulled the carpet back. Then I lifted the trap door land rover had cut out and undid the floor bolts. With the key in the run position I jiggled the wires and got the pump to make noise!!! Then I hopped back in the drivers seat and started it up! It was fixed... it was those bloody wires the whole freakin time! I used about 16feet of electric tape to force the freakin wires in hard and then on my next oil change I got Land Rover to install a new harness. Guess what... the damn harness is only about $50 and I have never had a problem since.

I was so fed up I actually had the vehicle in the paper one weekend for sale. Now I am glad I didn't sell it. I learned a good lesson though and that is to learn about these vehicles and do the work and diagnosis yourself and with the help of this board.
