I managed to pull the bulb out from the switch similar to the attached picture. It has a green bulb holder and a tiny green bulb. The lights on the right switches (i.e. wiper, fluid, SEL, NEXT) are all gone but, all switch functions are working. Can I purchase just the bulb from the dealer or do I need to get the whole switch? Where can I get this bulb? switch

You can get the bulbs at the dealer for about 2.

Ray, If the new bulbs from the dealer do not come with bulb holder, the new bulbs will easily slide into the old bulb holders.

I bought several bulbs at the dealer and they even had some in stock. It shouldn't be a problem.

Raymond, check with your dealer but mine didn't have them available, they wanted to charge me for the entire unit. DAP-Inc also has them for sale, if they are not out of stock. If you buy some get some spare as other bulbs from other switches will soon go out

I noticed that. Now, the light on the rear a/c switch is gone. How do you remove that switch. I pulled the cover on the heater panel and I tried to pull the switch out but I stopped. I do not want to break it. Am I missing a step?

I don't have rear AC, is your switch located where the front AC switch is at?? If so that switch can be tricky without dismantelling your entire pannel! But I was able to change my bulb by pulling on it as much as I could, that allow me to have access to the bulb. This was really hard as the bulb did not want to come out, but with patience I was able to switch it. The only tip that I have is take the Clock unit out this will give you a bit of an access to the rear of the button to allow you to push it a bit further out!! The other thing you can do if the above does not work is take the entire pannel out, clock, radio, cup holder etc. etc. etc, its not a hard just a lot of work just to change a small bulb!!!!! I would probably wait unit other bulbs go out or change them all the bulbs at once.

I read a post that this mysterious light failures could be a cause of a bad ground in the glove compartment light and/or a 10 amp fuse. The light on my glove compartment is not working. Could this be the culprit? I will be replacing the light in the glove compartment and check the 10 amp fuse right acbove the SRS fuse next.

Raymond...
If it is only one or 2 lights, then no, it has nothing to do with the glove box. IT is a bulb.

When I had my D1, I got switch bulbs at Radio Shack. A pack of 2-4 12v wheat bulbs is only about 1.99USD and not hard to replace. The stock bulbs are held in holders by their bare leads (like those Xmas tree lights that we all hate). You merely twist the circular appearing holder out of the backside of the switch, pull the old bulb out and replace with a new bulb by pushing the leads thru holes in the holder and wrapping them up the side of the holder. The stock bulbs have coloured "condums" on them, but these are fairly easy to remove and place on your new bulbs. Obviously not as straight forward as getting them from the dealer, but Radio Shacks are usually a bit more present than LR dealers.

Bill, 10-4 on that! I'll pass by Radio Shack today. I know that some retail store would have this around. The nearest dealer from me is a couple of hours away. And, with the price of gas, it's not worth it.
Anyhow, the question still remains. How do you take off the rear a/c switch out to replace the bulb? After removing the cooler/heater panel, can you pull the switch by using mere strength w/o damaging anything? Or, is there a trick?

Sorry, I can't recall on the AC switch, but the light and radio switches along the instrutment pod just kind of pull out as I recall. A careful but reasonable pull released the tabs retaining them and re-installation just required a firm push. I now have an RRC and its totally different and the old memory only retains certain trival info, so I just can't recall even though I did it once. Again sorry.

RAYMOND,

The first time I did this I pulled on it hard, the second time I pulled on the other switch so hard that I disconnected the cables, which was fine since they have the same plug as the buttons by the steering column. You can pull on them enough to get the unit out and get a screw driver underneath to pull the bulb holder, or you can try to unplug the button and then handle it that way!!!
