Ok, just yesterday I got a check engine light...plugged in my little ECU reader and got the following codes: P1179 - Fuel Air Metering P0300 - Multiple cylinder Misfire P1316 - Ignition system or misfire / manufacturer control They are all somehow related to the same thing since i have turned off the check engine light twice and when it comes back on, it has all three of these codes each time. The car runs fine as far as i can tell and doesnt seem to have a loss of power or hesitate...every once in a while, i will try to start the car and it will crank, but not start...i then have to turn the key to off and try it again, and it will start...otherwise it starts right up! At idle i also notice a very slight shudder and am idleing at around 2500. Any ideas as to what might be the culprit? I have a 96'. Thanks for any input!! adam elliott |

your idle is that high? mine idles at 750. I don't know if thats low or not. also, where are you getting your code definitions? i thought P1316 was a LR specific code that meant you were getting excessive emissions due to the misfires. |

When i plugged in my engine status reader into the disco to read why the engine light came on, those were the codes it gave me...the first time it was only P1316 and P0300, the second two times the light has come on, the p1179 also showed up along with the other two. Actually, ill have to check to see where im idleing at..i thought it was 2500, but maybe im thinking wierd...ill check it again in the morning. Im guessing maybe a coil would be the problem for this, since it is multiple misfires...but i dont know how to check, or if that would even be what might be the problem |

Here is a good link for GEMS fault codes: http://www.cunningham.me.uk/rangie/gems-faults.php. This guy also has some info on not starting. On the P1179: "Fuel Mass something or other and Air Mass something or other. Essentially these are correction factors which equate to fuel quality and air quality." From another newsgroup. (I happen to be looking at this stuff right now). Also: "P1177 & P1179 indicate maximum -ve correction reached, so either your engine is getting too much fuel, or the air flow meter is overreading. Suggest you check fuel pressure first. Running excessively rich will cause misfires, but this a symptom, not the cause. Note that misfire detection is suspended if other faults are present, so you won't see any codes for misfire (P0300 - P0308) despite the fact that you can feel it." Note that running too lean, such as from a vacuum leak, can also cause misfire. Maybe the winter gas formulation just isn't playing well with the GEMS ECU. |

Man, I had the same thing happen to me again. I took the liberty of over the warm DC weekend of popping out the TPS and cleaning it, and also cutting a hose that looked as if it was starting to crack at the end and refitting it. Now my CE light came back on (happened a month ago), but once again, the truck seems ok. But the day before it stalled and the light came on the next day. ARGH |
