I'm thinking of buying a rovertym rear bumper but am curious about the powdercoating. I bought a front about 2 years ago and the finish sucked. It started peeling as soon as I got it. I talked to them recently and was told that they changed their powdercoater. I was just curious from those who have bought bumpers recently (past couple of months) how the finish looks. I'm pretty sure I will buy a rear bumper, but don't know if I should have them send it with or without paint. Also if anybody could post some pictures of the underside, I would sure appreciate it. Thanks.

The powdercoat is very good. I got my front bumper for the D2 in September. I've hit it hard many times and removed the powder coat in that area, but no chipping around the hit. I touched it up with some Rustoleum paint and it was good to go. Check my site for pics.

What I'm comparing it to is the $G. My brother has had his for almost 3 years and the powdercoat is still as good as it was the day we put it on. When I got mine, it was a flat powdercoat. The $G almost looks like there was a clear coat applied to it. I just wish RTE could finish theirs off like that.

FWIW, I got my Slimline around this most recent New Year, and the powdercoat is very nice. I've nailed it on a couple of rocks and it didn't even mark it, much less chip it.

Steve,
I'd say you're right on with the low quality finish. I think RTE equipment is among, if not, the best EXCEPT for the lame paint job. I have a front bumper and sliders and they both have chipped and rusted in many different spots. I sanded and repainted spots once and i'm getting ready to do it again. It's kind of a lot of hassle. I'd still buy the same products again, they beat everything out there for me, but if i'd known the paint was so weak i would have had another coat put on locally before i installed the RTE gear. I'm still going to buy their rear bumper but it's just a shame that such a solid good looking product gets tainted by such a cosmetic flaw.

Steve,
I bought the Rovertym rear bumper a couple of months ago I had it sent naked. I primed, POR 15, scuffed, primed, scuffed, and finished with 3 coats of semi gloss black it's almost as tough as powder coating and very easy to fix when you do scratch it.

There is a pick on the Rovertym web site under(Products)as well as D1 rear bumper 2nd pic down.

Jake,

I'm pretty familiar with the Rovertym site. I am curious though to see pics taken of the underside of the bumper. If you could email me a couple I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I just got my front bumper yesterday! I'm just damn excited to have it at this point. The finish looks immaculate IMO, however, it hasn't been off the pavement yet.

Kenny,

Are you telling me that if I want the bumper by the summer I should order it now? RTE a little slow?

Steve,
Quite the opposite. I ordered a set of sliders and then a front bumper and both were to my door in less than a week. Excellent turn-a-round times in my opinion. The finish does look a lot better than what they were sending out a couple years ago.

That's good news. John did a great job with designing the products but was not very efficient getting orders out. I haven't dealt with RTE in a while so I'm glad to hear they are doing well. I'm also glad to hear that their powdercoat looks better than it used to.

I would still like to see some pictures from the underside of the rear bumper if anyone has them. Thanks for the feedback.
