Greetings all,

I'm interested in doing work on the 98 Disco that I have myself. Problem is, I have no idea what manual or books to get to walk me through things. Unlike the majority of you guys, I have never worked on an auto so my skills are quite limited. I would like to perform some of the routine maintenance items such as draining the transmission, replacing my brake pads, etc. If you guys can point me in the right direction I would certainly appreciate it. I have access to a very good Land Rover mechanic (Alan @ North Texas Rovers)but I find it difficult to get my rig over there to him. Thanks!

Antonio,
Rovers North stocks the Haynes manual -- granted, it's for the 3.9 engine, and for the UK version, but the majority of the info you need is in the book; I have a copy, and certainly like having it as a reference. Very easy to follow, step-by-step instructions, and they'll tell you exactly what tools you need, or if there are less expensive alternatives to the factory recommended tools.

Haynes Manual. Order through Rover websites (or Amazon?

LR Workshop Manual. Find at the dealer, copy a friend's, or buy off EBay

Also, look around here, and on other Rover websites. There are a lot of people who have done pretty much every repair, and there's a lot to learn without ever buying a book. That said, the books help. :-)

Probably worth the $20, but will only cover about 75-80% of your needs. Unfortunately, there's no good manual available to us for the 2003, so these things will have to suffice. Ray

I know you're looking for 2003 shop manual but you might be able to get by with the 99-02 one for everything but the engine overhaul. I found the LR shop manual from Bentley at the following link. Anyone find it cheaper than $94? I'm probably going to order one.
