I'm trying to avoid the whole roof rack deal. Has anybody rigged something unique in their cargo area to hold a spare tire? BW |

How big? If you have decent onboard air, just let air out of the spare and it will fit if it is only a 33". Or, contact Rovertym for a custom rear spare mount. Tom |

265/75-16 BF MT's I though about modifying(flipping) the existing mount, but the new spare is really heavy. I also mount my Hi-Lift on the spare tire carrier. Together, it's just too much weight. That is why I'm researching the cargo area. I use the spare tire carrier to mount a Hi-Lift, shovel and gas can. (yeah, I know that's heavy) but it's still lighter than the first proposal. |

Yeah, she's a D2. I thought about building a box that would fit over the tire, but would also serve as an elevated deck(the box would cover the floor plan). That way the K9 could roam freely. I would incorporate compartments on the top of the box for all the chains, straps, shackles . . . . etc. I'm just a cheap bastard and don't want to spend all that money just to put a tire up there. BW, I think you have found a good solution. You could remove those plastic saddlebags and make your platform about 8" wider. On top could be all the tiedowns you need...or diamondplate...or both...hmmm. I might do this. When the K9 is with you just put a carpet square in there for traction. Cheers, Kennith |
