I'm tracking down the problem with my air condition cooling fans and the elect. manual directs me to the compressor clutch relay. Can somebody tell me where to start looking for this relay???

My problem is that the fans don't come on; ever. I'm going down the list of checks, but if someone has "been there, done that" let me know a shortcut.

Ken the relay is in the RH footwell behind the panel on the side. there is two rows of relays upper bank , the second relay in from the left should be the one. the cooling fan relay will be to the right of the blower motor on a tray with other relays. it will be on the outer most row in the back yellow in color. these trucks have issues with the main switch not supplying power to the circiut. heads up and good luck.

Ken, if its not the relay, check the A/C fan Thermal Switch, on my 95 that unit is located on the Thermostat housing and its got a two prong connector that can go bad. Also is not unheard that the actual A/C electric fans would just stop working. I had to replace one of mine last summer.

Thanks guys; I'm going to dive in this weekend and see if I can trace this problem before it gets summer. Everything else in the A/C works great, so that rules out fuses, etc.

David, how would I solve the main switch problem?

Ken, a faulty switch would result in loss of power to the whole circuit. is the problem "just" that the fans dont come on? if thats the case then follow Tony's info and head for the realy and thermal switch. if you gots no power at the fans.

David, that's right, everything else works, just the fans don't come on. Is there a test for the Thermal Switch, or is it a toss and replace item?

good moring Ken! ok , then the switch is working inside, when you probe the both wires at the fan motors , no power? on either wire? with system on.if yes to power, and fan no workie, bad fan, badd fan, if you gots no power, then start back tracking the wires/circuit from there. the connector for the fans is tucked in on the top of the condesor near the radiator, seen a few badddd fans. also checked the fuse in the box in the engine compartment? thermal switch is for the cooling system, its a backup to the water pump fan, a\c by passes the thermal switch.

David, fan no workie. That was too simple; I was going for a complete electrical overhaul. After doing the first test by the book, I thought "David's simple solution could save me the rest of the test" so I put up my trusty multimeter and dug out my ancient test light probe, stuck it to the fan and told my six year old "hit the A/C button." -light on- "hit it again" -light off.

Now if finding the fan would just be that easy. I thought the local parts store may have it since its Denzo; but no luck. Please tell me this isn't the fan AtlanticBritish wants $299 for!

Thanks guys.
