the door jamb says 28 front(seems low), 36 rear while the tires say 44 psi, what should they be filled to? the tires are michellin xpc 235/70s.

Follow the door jam. The 44 PSI is on a a fully laden truck where the weight is approaching the maximum load rating of the tire.

The staggering of the tire pressure that you see listed is because the back end of the truck is heavier than the front hence the approximate 10 lb difference between front and back.

I run 30/40 on my truck but that's with a BFG AT tire.

the never ending saga continues, one of the valve stems ripped completely out of the tire(i've never heard of that happening:-(), can that be repaired or do i need a new tire?

The difference is because rover believes people can drive them safer with this pressure diff to keep them straighter and with more understeer on road.
Try 32psi front and 36psi rear. You wont look back

I run about 32/40PSI(235/70/16)BFG ..I used to run them on what the door jam rec, but after I aired them up a bit I found that over all the rover drove and handled better.(maybe better mpg as well..?)

thought about it and realized the stem is in the rim not the tire:-)
