I bought a '94 Disco with 129,000 miles on it in October in hopes of using it to pull a boat. Since Oct. I have had to replace the coolant hoses, spark plugs, battery, and alternator. I've only had it back about a week, and already the battery warning light has come back on and the tach has dropped to zero. It drives OK, though.
What do you think it could be, or is is time to put it out to pasture?
We're not mechanics, and it is getting expensive. We haven't pulled the boat at all! Thanks for your help.

Anita hi
Did the tach bounce for a bit and then die, not work at all, or just die one day? Did you replace these parts yourself or have a shop do it? It could be a bad alternator out of the box. Take the truck back to the shop and have the alternator tested or take it to the auto parts store and have it tested. Hope it helps Max

Thanks for your reply. yes, it did bounce and then die at the same time the red battery icon lit up. The truck is running better than ever. The new alternator came from a LR dealership service dept. and my local mechanic put it on.

Get someone to put a voltmeter on batttery/alt.
Should read about 13.8 to 14.2 volts at fast idle lights on low beam.

It sounds like a bad alternator. stop by your mechanics and have him test it. It is not uncommon to get a bad one from the box.
Looking at your last post you say the truck is running better. you fixed the problem? Keep us updated. max
