I am entering the Land Rover world tomorrow when I take delivery of a 97 SE with 84k on it. Anyone have any thoughts or tips on what I should inspect and look for right off the bat?

do all the lights (check engine, SRS, ABS, Oil etc.) go through self test when you first start it?

That is the first thing I do.

Nothing you shouldn't already have checked before agreeing a price.

Look inside the oil filler cap at the head. If black and crusty, think twice.

Look under the seats. If you find twinky wrappers and beer bottle caps, good sign.

See www.robisonservice.com. Go to Service dept., then Land Rover, then Land Rover Buying Advice.

You prolly should have lurked around here a bit longer.

Melissa, Lets be realistic now. A Rover that DOESN'T leak has a problem. That is how I know I have fluid where it should be. If a leak has stopped, then I know I have a problem!

Yah your right Curt. When I bought mine it was not leaking! I should have known better.. 10K miles later....EEK! It should leak a bit! I have gotten used to monitering the garage floor with paper towels.. Ok so maybe it should drop a few here and there! A 4.6 HSE 2003? Curt, NOW that is a Rover that SHOULD not leak..yet ;)

This is actually the second '03 (company car). No more 4.6, it is a BMW 4.4. I drive over 50,000 a year and sold the first '03 with 54,000 miles on it! No leaks on either...thank you BMW engines.
