Hi folks, having done lots of searching here, I promptly ignored everything and went and bought some component 4" speakers for the front doors of my D1 (98). The magnets are too "round" i.e. big for the hole. I'm going to cut out the metal in the door, which I've done in other cars many years ago.

Just wondered if there is anything to watch out for on the D1 doors...

Is it bigger only or is it deeper also?? If so watch out not getting in the way of the glass of window.

And if it does car audio shops sell spacers to move speaker out (or use a bit of machined custom wood)

I put 4 inch speakers in the front door of my 99 with no problems. Did have to do some cutting to the metal to get the magnet in because the diameter was bigger on the speakers. After than, the opening wasn't quite deep eneogh so they stick out a little but the face plate covered anything noticable up really well. Didn't really have any problems with getting to close to anything.
