Has anyone found an aftermarket or other manufacturers alternative to the original drivers side door actuator on a series 1? |

Neil, have you tried discount rovers? I have the same problem with my left passenger door? I am taking the panel off to get to the actuator so that I can lube it first to see if that works? Nathan Crabtree may have an answer for you; I will get my parts through him if I need one since he has aftermarket OEM spec parts available. Cheers Dale Farr

I found that actuators usually don't go bad, the door latch mechanism is usually the problem with the doors not opening without the key in the knob. By all means check your actuator but if its working than more than likely the latch is bad. There is a spring that holds tensions so the door lock stays open if that spring is broken or worn out you have to replace it. This problem is really common if you do a search!!!!! |

Neil, Update on the actuators. I ordered one for the left rear door today. The so-called door lock ECU is incorporated into the left front actuator. No aftermarket actuators were available so it is L/R genuine parts or no parts. Hopefully this will do the trick. Dale Farr

I can find entire doors cheaper than I can find a door lock actuator. If it's not the actuators going bad, why is it so hard to find one that works? I keep getting people tell me they have them, but they drop off the face of the earth after a few emails. Anyway, my actuator makes a noise, and sounds like it works, but it does not move. So I have been driving around with the interior trim off my drivers door for a month, refusing to pay $200 for a new actuator, but not having anyone come forward who can actually sell me a used one. As far as the door latch not working, the door does lock, and unlock completely normally, it just does not do it with the actuator. By the way, anyone with a drivers door lock actuator they would like to sell? |

The best way is to buy any after market kit and retro fitt with an external control box. I have done this to a few Disco's. The kits cost $40 here in oz. They then use standard actuators. |

I have a similar problem with my rear door on my 95 D1. I too thought it was the actuator as it didn't seem to be pushing hard enough to unlock the door, but before I plunked my money down I thought I would run an experiment and traded the rear passenger door actuator for the rear door actuator -- and voila -- it's not the actuator. I can see that many people have this problem and blame various parts in the door locking linkage. I can see why because there seem to be about a dozen moving parts. My problem is: what part is likely to be the culprit? Any ideas? Or should I just replace the whole thing? I've lubed the whole thing, checked for binding parts and broken springs -- still doesn't work. Any specific ideas would be greatly appreciated. |

Will, Your item is more than likely the latch mechanism itself. Try pulling the internal door knob all the way up and then unlocking the door. If it works then you may get away with a simple adjustment. The rod that goes to the rear of your latch is connected with a clip. Remove it and tighten down the rod by turning it a couple of times (you will have to mess around with the adjustment to find the needed setting). If this does not work your latch is more than likely bad. |

Will, I see one adjustable rod, it has a threaded nut on it. This one is attached to the inner "Y" housing and seems to run to the exterior door handle. Do you mean this one? Will |
