I have 97 Disco, stock bumper, no winch. Rovertym HD 2 lift. Rear quarter panels already trimmed to accommodate 245/75 Brigdestone MTs. Now its time for new meats on the stock alloys. BFG MTs are the choice, but question is which size may require more trimming? 235/85 or 265/75? I know 235/85 is a little taller with narrower footprint I know 265/75 is not quite as tall but with larger footprint. I thought I read through archives, but no real information on comparing these two choices regarding possible trimming needs. If so, sorry. Thanks in advance, Bruce

You'll need to trim more with the 265/75s then you would with the 235/85s. Depending on the tire maker some of them may be the same height only the 265s will be wider. |

I have 265s and didn't trim at all. Just moved the quarter panel out an inch or so. |

Brent, you like the 265s. had any ill affects poor milage rubbing etc. I'm really having a hard time deciding between 245s and 265s would like the bigger tires but don't want then to be a pain in the ass for an extra inch. Cheers Andy |

I have the 265/75R16 BFG MT's. The gas mileage is much worse. I haven't measured it, but the needle sure moves faster with them on (that's why they're my offroad set). The only rubbing I have is on the plastic fender well if the front wheel is stuffing in the fender and I'm turning. It's just rubber on flexible plastic so not an issue. I'll get around to figuring out how to fix it eventually. I have the standard OME lift (about 2"). |

I have 2" RTE suspension lift and am running 245/75-16's. Mileage dosent appear to be any crappier than with the stock meats. I have read that with the 235/85 and stock gearing you will experience power loss, but its all relative. If you're gonna use the truck mostly for offroad then go for the 235/85s, but if you will be mostly driving on the road, then the 245/75s might be a nice compromise. |

I have a definate power loss with the 265's. On even smaller hills the transmission kicks down to third to maintain speed. With the stock rims and tires the engine barely noticed it. Some of this is of course due to the steel wheels vice stock alloys. |

Not so much a "power loss" as a shift in power. I noticed the different shift points when I put my 275/70R16s on, but the power still seems to be there when I need it. Going through deep sand I noticed the downshift earlier than before, but still plenty of power to get through. Maybe some equate that to "power loss", but I just think of it as a shift in power. Bruce, you can drive my truck if you want to see what the 235/85s feel like compared to the 245s. |
