I took out my SRS fuse from the main fuse box under the steering column and the light came on as normal. The dealer cannot link to the SRS unit with their testbook and they said that it must not have power. They are sure the airbag will not go off in a crash. A new unit is very expensive. Any experiences with this? Thanks, Dave 1996 Discovery SE7 |

Dave, not too sound off or anything, but I have seen alot of Vehicles that have been in some pretty bad front end crashes that the Airbags did not go off. Of course I have been in 1 or 2 pretty bad front end crashes in vehicles without airbags, it is just a matter of wearing your seat belt. In my opionion (note my opionion is not worth much) I would rather not have air bags in my vehicles, but that is me. |

Do you mean the airbag ECU? They are an expensive part. Mine was replaced in 2000, (95 d1) I was told by a LR service manager they last about 4-5 years average, but go sooner and longer. Think it was a $450 part in 2000. He could have been BS'ing me, but I believed him at the time. I dont really care one way or the other, but I would like the passenger bag working. |

I was told that when the SRS control unit or ECU does not respond to the testbook, land rover says it should be completely replaced, and it costs over a grand. I didn't realize that they could go bad that quickly. I was told that it may be able to be repaired, because I'm not buying a new one. Thanks for the reply. Dave |

oh boy, i think the first you should do is have the vehicle checked out by another dealer, it sounds like it may a typical coms prob with the testbook and the car. most of those probs are due to test book itself your a wiring prob in the car. you said they said it wasnt getting power sounds like some bs to me, like i said i would get a second look at it first. |

The problem is that NO dealer will *repair* the SRS system. They will replace parts in it. (Like they won't repair the ECU--they'll only replace it). There is TOO great liability on their part. I don't think getting a 2nd opinion is a bad idea, though. Testbook is certainly quirky. |

Is your SRS unit part number AMR4905? I have lived with my SRS light being on for a year and 1/2 now and I am almost used to it! I duno, maybe I should just pull the bulb already cause the part is expensive. I almost bought a used computer from a wreck but on second thought that didn't seem very smart! Also when wheel'n it might be a plus to have the bags disabled. I also have the ABS light on. I need part STC1750 (rear wheel speed sensor) and will probably source that part used. Then my dash won't look like a freakin xmas tree anymore! - James |
