Sorry, in advance. I read a thread about (I believe) a brake accumulator or something to that effect. I have done search after search and can't find it. I seem to have the problem mentioned, soft pedal on first contact, second pump of pedal, brake ok. I remember reading the part was not expensive and may save a MC replacement, or booster, I can't remember exactly. Mine is 95 w/abs. I guess I am just computer illiterate!!!!!

Have you disconnected the brake lines lately for any repairs? Not just a bleed problem? Symptoms similar, soft pedal pumps up to good pedal.

Not lately, I replaced the brakes last spring. Pedal has been gradually getting softer over the last couple of months. Will not ease to the floor under constant pressure like MC problem. Brakes still working OK, but I've been going with the pedal pump more lately to get better pedal feel. There was a thread about a similar problem and I can't find it with the search box or scrolling through the archives. Maybe I was just dreaming.

try to bleed the hydrolic system first. this will flush out any old fluid. if the fluid was not changed then it should. brake fluid should be changed as part of preventive maintence! no more than two years. brake fluid has a tendency to contract moisture. thus maybe leeding to the soft pedal. if your fluid is brownish looking in the master cylinder then it is contaminated with moisture. the brown is the rust from the steel brake lines. the fluid should be clear as if new. try this it might work.

I appreciate the advice and I think I will try bleeding the brakes. I did flush the system when I replaced the brakes though. As a matter of fact I wound up flushing it twice.
