I drive an '01 D2 that needs new tires. Actually was hoping to hold off until summer and then put on OME springs and BFG MT's. Unfortunately, one of my tires has blown a belt on the sidewall and is therefore shot. I have been researching old threads and have read the tires and wheels information in the tech section and the EE website. Now I am thoroughly confused. From what I can tell, most folks are putting on 265/76r16s on D2s with OME springs but I have read that anything bigger than 245/75r16 won't fit without trimming. Really wanted to wait until later for the spring work. Will 265s fit without lifting a D2? How about 235/85? If I lift with OME and use 751/781 springs will that raise things so much that I will have driveline issues or radius arm stuff or all that other junk I haven't figured out yet or should I stick with the D2 specific springs? This is my daily driver and I want it dependable on the road and off without rebuilding the whole suspension. I just think a 2-3" lift and more aggressive tires are what I'm after. I know somebody is going to say this whole thing has been beaten to death and I'm sure it has but that's what's gotten me confused. Thanks in advance.

Greg,
I have 779 Front and 781 Rear OME springs. The resulting lift is about 2" and looks good, not too high. I have the 265/75R16 BFG MT's and am getting a little rubbing on the plastic fender liner. Nothing I can't trim, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I won't have to trim the actual body at all.

My friend is running the 265/75R16's on his stock '99 DII. He hasn't taken it offroad but I haven't heard him complain of any rubbing with his stock setup. He'll also be adding OME shocks and springs, probably next weekend.

If you don't plan to do any heavy articulation wheeling then I think you can put on 265/75R16s now and do the lift a little later. Just from what I've seen on my friends '99. Other may have another opinion.

Hi Greg.

I just put on rear springs from a 96 D1 that had 80,000 miles on them, since they were Sagging a bit I figured his old rear springs on the front of my 03 would raise it up a bit but still be bearable and they are great a bit stiffer but still rides great on road plus I got 1.75 inch lift with $0 down and 1.5hrs of work for the front end.

For the rear I got a set of EE spacers for $60 and again 1.5hrs for the rear with no change in rear ride quallity.

The .25 inch difference will be taken up by the winch when I get it.

So the price was right, and I have plenty of room to grow in tire size. I think If I would have put non warn-out spings on the front the ride would not be as good and I would be rattli'n my teeth out. On road with the the sway bars connected the truck BEARLY rocks side to side and corners like it is on rails but if you want front end flex I would disconnect the sway bars, but you can decide for your self.

Thanks Shane and Ross for the input. Shane, have you done any driveline mods or do you think you won't have to?

I haven't done any and haven't noticed any vibrations either. Time will tell though.

Greg,
I am running 265/75/16's on my stock D1, have been doing lots of around town and moderate off road driving with no problems or rubbing at all. However I too have been confused with all the posts about tire size. Hope this helps your decision!

Some have problems...some don't. From what I have read, if you have a rotoflex, you might want to change it if you go 3 inches or more. Mine didn't have one, and I have had no problems since the lift (RTE 3")
It does wander a lot, though, and am considering a tru track front dif to stop this. Maybe a RTE castor corrected radius arm. For now I am just living with it.
Daily driver- 250+ miles per week.
