I was curios on this so I looked on the RAVE CD and sure enough there are instructions. It quotes 30.3 hrs but I think this is for cutting and welding the old / new roof. I would bet it is alot more to it than this.

A long and slow job All the spot welds on roof have to be either drilled out or ground away.

You then have to individually spot weld the roof on and grind/clean up again before painting.

Have had it done to one of my Disco's 2 years ago It can be done but is a big and tedious job

so then are the spot welds located in the water lip/ gunnells. you know where the roof rack legs sit? or do i just cut at the pillars? i guess i should look at the rave cd.

You will need to go along all the waterlip channels , Windscreen needs to come out as does all the roof lining etc Also check roof as sometimes replacement roof has different strengthening ribs in different location to what has been removed

Perhaps by going and having a look at your roof and not a CD might show you what is actually there. If you dig up the mastic in the gutter or remove the plastic capping along the gutter edge the multitude of spot welds are able to be seen in all their magnificence from both top and bottom............

Guys,
Sorry to change the subject, but what's teh Rave CD? Where do you get it? And about how much? It sounds like a valuable tool.

Thanks,

Ryan

Couldn't you pull the dents out? I know body shops weld pins to the steel and then pull the dents out from the outside. Have you taken it to a body shop to ask their opinion? Maybe they could do the worst of it and then you finish it. Are you planning on doing this yourself? If so, it seems like it would be easier to get it pulled out instead cutting off the whole roof and welding on another one.

true true true. its pretty bad. we could not open the doors. so we parked under a tree and used a winch to pul the roof rack up. this helped to raise it enough to get the doors open. we have a roof kicking around just a matter of getting the job done!

If you go to the parking garage with a tape measure and find out that their clearance signs are wrong you may be able to get their insurance to compensate you. I am very wary of garages. I actually measured one that I was in once and while the ceiling itself was the advertised clearance they had installed these thick pipes, post construction, that hung well below the marked clearance. Check the clearances in several spots.
