I just returned from the weekend from hell off roading in Croatan NF in NC. I had two major incidents: 1) I got stuck and couldnt shift into diff lock low 2) I drove through a puddle, the force of the mud/water pushed my front right brake line into the spring as it bottomed out and busted it. crazy huh. Keep in mind these are factory lines w/ plenty of clearance, i dont see how it happened. Anyone had this happen? Any ideas about the shift problem? |

"the force of the mud/water pushed my front right brake line into the spring as it bottomed out and busted it." I had the same thing happen, spring compressed and cut the brake line, came out of the hole hit the brakes.... then hit a tree. I'm not sure that it was the force of the mud/water, perhaps something was down there such as a stick or something, who knows. Good excuse to replace with stainless. Call John at www.expeditionexchange.com and get some Paragon lines. Or, rovertym can hook you up too. |

was the cdl working befor the trail, or did you get stuck then try to engage it? these cdl's are prone to corrosion. so my guess is that it is rusted stuck. try to keep working it whil spraying penitrating oil on it. do this from under neath the truck, hitting all the linkages. and keep trying to work it back anf forth. if you cant get it you will have to take it apart to access it. if you do get it to become unfrozen remember to use it a least once a mounth to prevent it from happening again. they become stuck from lack of use. hope this helps |

Brakes -- crazy stuff, man... CDL -- I had a rather embarassing story -- got stuck in a snow bank in a parking lot showing off, uh, I mean "testing the capabilities of my new disco"... once I was stuck, I couldn't get the diff to lock. the little light came on, but only one wheel on either axle was spinning. Ever since, before doing something like that, I lock the diff just before I get into a situation where I need it. My CDL doesn't like to shift into low unless the truck is rolling - perhaps that it the problem |
